Construction proceeds apace in the kitchen and dining rooms of the main part of the house. These pictures help illustrate the general construction techniques. First, the removal of portions of the original wall (stone and adobe) to allow for placement of reinforced concrete and brick supports. Next, conduit and switch boxes are placed, and final shapes are roughed out using brick, cement, and cut stone. Finally, the coat of finishing cement (aplanado) is applied and painted.
Risk of fire damaging the structure? About zero.
The next step is the putting down the tile floors, followed by tiling the counters and walls in the prep areas. Last will come the appliances, and then we will be, literally, cooking!
